Kennedy Elementary Mentoring Application

Volunteers are needed on a weekly basis at Kennedy Elementary as tutors and lunch buddy mentors. This program is set up through Communities in Schools (CIS), a nonprofit that provides student support.

Tutor Requirements:

  • Occurs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
    • Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:00 p.m.
    • Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m.
    • Weekly commitment required
  • Works one-on-one or with small groups to reinforce basic skills
  • Works at any grade level in the subjects of math or reading
  • Communicates concerns to CIS site coordinator
  • Able to set good boundaries so students can meet behavior expectations

Lunch Buddy Mentors:

  • Lunch Times – Can choose Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday
    • 11:55 a.m. – 12:25 p.m. – 4th grade (2 males and 3 females needed)
    • 12:05 – 12:30 p.m. – 5th grade (1 male and 1 female needed)
    • 12:15 – 12:45 p.m. – 2nd grade (1 male needed)
    • Weekly commitment required
  • Works with an at-risk student needing extra support
  • Provides a caring, listening presence for students to talk to
  • Models for students to be a kind and caring member of the school community
  • Serves as a role model and advisor, helping the student understand how education will help him or her reach personal goals
  • Communicates concerns to CIS site coordinator
  • Able to set good boundaries so that their student match can meet behavior expectations
  • Student matches will be made according to tutor and student gender
  • *Lunch is not provided for lunch buddy volunteers

One-on-one & O'Connell Youth Ranch Tutoring
